Each booklet contains reliable, accurate information about vaccine benefits, safety, side effects, vaccine types, vaccine access, transportation, locations (within the Columbus area), and more resources. The booklets also include information about Title VI, which ensures the provision of qualified interpreters/translators at no cost to any Limited English Proficiency (LEP) client at federally-funded providers (such as hospitals). Vaccine Videos: Discussions with Community Members and Leaders

In the videos below, watch and listen to discussions with various community members, including Erin Schmidt, an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Health Associate with US Together, Denis Kasaza, an US Together client; Mike Premo, Director of Engagement at CD4AP, and Hana Abdelbaki, a Program Coordinator at US Together. These in-depth discussions help to dig into the challenges and opportunities for vaccination among New Americans in Ohio.

About These Videos

Erin Schmidt, an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Health Associate, has been working to educate refugees and immigrants about the COVID-19 Vaccine and provide resources to help and encourage them to get vaccinated. She has also been networking with the community to learn and share about the struggles they face. She created and recorded a comprehensive presentation about the urgency for refugees and immigrants to get vaccinated, the barriers they face, and ways these barriers can and have been alleviated. We hope this can bring a greater understanding of these issues and provide strategies on how to assist and encourage widespread vaccination among refugees and immigrants

Denis Kasaza is an US Together client from The Democratic Republic of the Congo. He wanted to share his experience taking the COVID-19 Vaccine. He is a strong advocate in his community and wants them, and other refugees, to know that the vaccine is safe and effective. Listen to the conversation to hear more about how he is doing that and the fears Africans have with taking the vaccine.

Mike Premo is the Director of Engagement for Community Development for All People, a faith-based nonprofit on the south side of Columbus. They have hosted 2 vaccination pop-up clinics organized by Columbus Public Health that have been very successful. He encourages more organizations to have these clinics because they provide a familiar, trusting and convenient place for people who have hesitations or lack transportation. Listen to the conversation to hear more about these experiences and learn how Community Development for All People has been able to build relationships with different government entities to help alleviate various disparities on the south side of Columbus.

Hana Abdelbaki is the Program Coordinator for Victims of Crime at Us Together. She shares about the conversations she has had with clients about the COVID-19 vaccine. While there have been fears and hesitations, her clients are starting to become more and more comfortable taking the vaccine. Listen to hear more about those conversations and the ways she has helped her clients understand that the vaccine is safe and effective.
