A Brief Overview

In 2017, US Together merged with the Columbus International Program (CIP).  CIP is now operating as the US Together International Program and hosts professionals from around the globe in an effort to enhance public and cultural diplomacy. US Together is continuing CIP’s mission to promote international understanding through intercultural exchange.

The International Program enables

US Together to expand its mission abroad and create international partnerships all over the globe.

International Training Programs

Long-Term Professional Exchange

Through our partnership with Council of International Programs USA (CIPUSA), we provide J-1 visa services for professionals living outside of the USA. The Exchange Visitor (J) non-immigrant visa category is for individuals approved to participate in work and study-based exchange visitor programs. Participants are integral to the success of the program.

  • Cultural and Occupational Exchange Program (CORE) - a program intended for participants from foreign countries who want to train in the U.S. but need help with a professional placement. The site and training, as well as support with living accommodations and assistance for U.S. visa services, are established by US Together.  Length of program is 1-18 months.

  • Global Partners Program - a training placement program for U.S. businesses interested in hiring foreign professionals whom they have selected personally. The Global Partners Program allows companies to recruit international talents and expand the internationalization of their business. US Together facilitates visa sponsorship after the participant has established a training site with a local organization. Length of program is 1-18 months.

  • Cultural Exchange Intern Program - designed to allow students of degree-seeking programs or recent graduates from foreign universities to visit the United States to gain professional experience in their chosen field of study. Programs are designed to enhance Americans' knowledge of foreign cultures and skills through an open interchange of ideas between participants and their American associates. Length of program is 1-12 months.

Short-Term Exchange

  • Professional Delegations: A delegation is a short-term training program (1-6 weeks) organized for a group of professionals with similar interests that consist of a variety of organizations in Central Ohio. Delegations are individualized and may consist of 1-16 members with similar training requirements. Funding comes from a variety of sources, including grant money, funds raised by the delegates or their organizations, and private sponsorship.

  • Summer Camps: camps for high school or college students. Duration: 2 weeks.

  • Immersion Programs: customized cultural programs, focused on helping foreign citizens understand U.S. traditions and society.

International Partnerships

As the successor of Columbus International Program, the International Program of US Together continues to connect globally and promote international understanding through intercultural exchange. Our various training programs are made possible through a network of diverse partners abroad. Most recently, we broadened our international database through participation in Shaping Participatory Democracy Professional Fellows Program as well as signing three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with nonprofit organization from Rwanda.

This program is a two-way exchange program for professionals and leaders from the United States and Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. The first step of the program starts with international fellows traveling to the United States for professional development training with host organizations (mentors) throughout the country. Mentors help international fellows learn American methods in shaping participatory democracy in communities while comparing one another's professional experiences. The U.S. mentors then make a reciprocal visit to international fellows’ countries for consultations and further trainings.

The Professional Fellows Program is managed by the Great Lakes Consortium for International Training & Development. This Toledo-based organization builds global connections that make local impacts. In its 20-year history, the Consortium has welcomed more than 1,200 international guests from 18 countries to the United States and has sent nearly 1,000 Americans overseas for professional development to address cultural, economic, humanitarian, and other needs. The Consortium started its operations in 1999 and is a cooperative effort of Bowling Green State University, Lourdes University, the University of Toledo, and Great Lakes Community Action Partnership.
