US Together Welcomes Ten New AmeriCorps VISTA Members!

July marked the end of the second year of our AmeriCorps VISTA project “Developing Capacity to Serve Low Income Refugees”. Over the scope of 12 months, five VISTA members served at US Together’s offices in three locations: Columbus, Cleveland, and Toledo. VISTA members have been fundamental for expanding our supporters’ base, enhancing US Together’s fundraising efforts and community outreach, as well as improving the agency’s communications and educational materials.

Collectively, our last term of VISTA members recruited and managed over 260 new volunteers who contributed nearly 2500 hours to our programs, including: Job Readiness, Financial Literacy, Youth Mentoring, Microenterprise Development and others. Meave, Isaiah, Phillip, Theresa and Jordan have further raised nearly $130,000 in donations (both cash and in-kind), despite the global pandemic that started earlier this year. We are very grateful for their flexibility and dedication in the reality of working from home. Although their service year ended during the summer, we hope to work with them in the future on new collaborative projects!

In July we also welcomed ten new AmeriCorps VISTA members who started the final, third year of our ongoing VISTA project. Apart from five year-long members, we also greeted five VISTA Summer Associates who served in Cleveland and Toledo for eight weeks. Although their summer program was relatively short, the associates made a significant progress for our employment services, women empowerment activities, and youth educational programs.

 About the AmeriCorps VISTA Program

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members bring passion and perseverance where the need is greatest: to organizations that help eradicate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to meet our nation’s most pressing challenges and advance local solutions.

Since 1965, over 220,000 VISTA members have served with the mission to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty. VISTA serves in each of the 50 U.S. States and in all U.S. Territories. VISTA members go where they are needed and make a difference through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. Learn more here.
