Afghan Holiday Campaign Wrap-Up!

Over the summer, the world received news that the Taliban took control of Kabul, Afghanistan. Since then, thousands of people fled or are currently in the process of fleeing their home country. As a leading resettlement agency across Ohio, US Together is helping hundreds of individuals find refuge in the United States. This extraordinary resettlement effort required us to call on those in Columbus, Cleveland, and Toledo for support. From #GivingTuesday to the last week of December, we hosted a successful campaign aimed at helping boost our resettlement services for Afghan evacuees.

Throughout the fundraiser, we found ways to uplift the stories of those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and celebrate Afghan culture.

  • We highlighted the podcast episode, The Fall of Afghanistan from our national affiliate, HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) to understand the current displacement crisis.

  • We learned more about Afghan culture through food and folktales. Food is a great way to learn about a new culture, so we encouraged our supporters to try making an Afghan recipe for the holiday season! Folktales provide us a window into other cultures, and supporters can listen listen to an Afghan folktale while enjoying their dish.

  • Waisuddin, a recent arrival to Cleveland from Afghanistan, shared his experience with resettlement. Read his full story by clicking here.

Throughout this time, we raised a total of $5,940 towards our resettlement efforts for Afghan evacuees. To everyone who participated in this campaign from making a financial donation to learning more about Afghan culture, we truly thank you. It takes a village to make our clients feel truly welcome in their new community, and those involved in the US Together community have done their part!

I’m proud to support this campaign in hopes that it will bring a positive difference in a new beginning in the life of a refugee.
