US Together Statement on the 2020 Election

As an organization founded by refugees and serving refugees—so many of whom fled oppressive or abusive governments—we have a special and profound respect for the importance of free and fair elections. We commend the workers and volunteers who ensured that American citizens were able to exercise their right to vote—a right that is not only guaranteed by the United States Constitution, but is a right of people everywhere, as recognized in Article 21 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.

With more than 70 million displaced persons worldwide, of whom nearly 30 million are refugees, now is the time to reaffirm our commitment as a nation of welcome. We extend our congratulations to those who were elected at all levels of government and look forward to continuing our long history of cooperation with public servants of all political parties at the city, county, state, and national levels to make our communities and country a more welcoming place for New Americans. We further look forward to the restoration of a robust refugee resettlement program, as was outlined in the campaign platform of President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.
