World Refugee Day

Today we recognize #WorldRefugeeDay as a chance to raise awareness about the plight of refugees across the world. More specifically, the COVID-19 pandemic and recent protests have emphasized the need for a more inclusive society. With the current suspension on international refugee resettlement, families living in refugee camps are in limbo.

This said, former refugees living in the United States also need our attention. Resettled refugees have to learn an entirely new educational system, find employment, and navigate complex financial institutions within a matter of months after arrival. This is in addition to learning a new language, adapting to the fast pace of American life, and establishing a social support network.

Our agency is proud to work closely with local refugee and immigrant communities to help make their transition easier. We provide essential services, such as interpretation, intensive case management, financial literacy, and ESL. Our case managers spend hours arranging medical appointments, preparing families for American schools, and advocating for targeted services.

This type of work is beyond rewarding. Every day presents a new opportunity to learn from our refugee clients. As they share their stories with us, we develop a deeper understanding of their resilience. It is therefore our goal to eliminate social and economic barriers for refugees in the United States so they can continue building strong communities.

Join us in raising awareness today. Share this post, donate at ustogether.us or start a conversation with family. #WorldRefugeeDay
