Volunteer Spotlight: Fatmeh
The Toledo office would like to recognize one of our dedicated volunteers, Fatmeh Alalawneh. Fatmeh has been enormously supportive, helping the office provide services and information regarding COVID-19 to our clients. She was the first volunteer to communicate with our clients to educate them about COVID-19 as well as the precautions that they need to take at work and at home. She also has translated many newspaper articles into Arabic in order to make the information accessible to our Arabic-speaking clients.
Fatmeh has volunteered with the English as a Second Language (ESL) department in Toledo since 2018. She has taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced English courses. She also has provided her invaluable experience by developing a curriculum for volunteers, and many other worksheets, which are used in all ESL classes. Additionally, Fatmeh has supported our clients to gain access to colleges and universities by evaluating their credentials and helping them register for classes at both the University of Toledo and Owens Community College. We are so thankful for the time that Fatmeh has dedicated to the clients of US Together. When not volunteering with US Together, Fatmeh is completing her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction and is a Graduate Dean’s Fellow in Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Toledo. Thank you, Fatmeh!
