November is Native American Heritage Month
The History of Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the beautiful and diverse Indigenous cultures of Native America. This celebration began in 1986 when President Reagan proclaimed November 23-30 as “American Indian Week.” In 1990, President George H.W. Bush issued a proclamation to designate the entire month of November as a time to celebrate Native Americans, and this continues to the present day as President Joe Biden issued the annual proclamation to continue the month long celebration.
