Learn More About US Together's Summer Youth Program and How You Can Help!
US Together staff is working hard to bring a Summer Youth Program to Cleveland’s refugee kids this Summer! We also have some exciting details to share on what the program is going to look like.
The US Together Summer Youth Program will begin at the end of May and run through the end of July, and we will be enrolling between 20-30 refugee students between ages 10-18 years old! The kids in the program will be refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Middle East.
The activities planned for the Summer program will supplement Cleveland Metropolitan School Districts (CMSD), six week Summer school that all students are encouraged to participate in, in order to close the academic gaps brought on by COVID-19 this past year. Some of these activities will include going to museums in Cleveland, playing sports in the park, taking art classes and more!
Elisia Hersh, US Together’s Programs Coordinator, explained what the largest gaps this program will fill in for refugee youth:
“The summer program will offer a safe way for students to come together and socialize, something many of them have not been able to do since arriving in the country! We also hope the programs offered will give the students the chance to explore their own stories, learn from their experiences, bring them closer to their newfound communities, and go on to inspire others.”
