US Together Volunteer Event - Refugee 101 Jeopardy!

Last month, AmeriCorps VISTA members and staff from all three US Together offices put together a Refugee Jeopardy night for volunteers to participate in virtually!

This event was a great way for volunteers to meet each other AND learn more about fun refugee-related facts. The topics for Refugee 101 Jeopardy included – US Together, Resettlement Process, Language, Refugee & Immigration Statistics and Culture. One of the questions in the language category included, “What is the 5th most common language in the world?” the answer being “Arabic”!

The winner of the first Refugee 101 Jeopardy was a Cleveland volunteer named Carl. Carl was able to win the book, “The Girl Who Smiled Beads” by Clemantine Wamariya, which is our current volunteer book club memoir.

We plan to host another US Together Volunteer Jeopardy night soon that any volunteers can attend! The categories for the next round of jeopardy will include – Cuisine, Immigration, Regional Conflicts, Famous Refugees and Terminology – so be sure to study and attend!

US Together VISTA members and staff love hosting volunteer events, because it gives them the opportunity to show appreciation of our amazing volunteers! It also allows volunteers from all three offices to meet and discuss their experiences working with refugees from Ohio. In the future, volunteers can look forward to more events like, film screenings, jeopardy, and more book clubs.

Thank you US Together volunteers for everything you do!
